launching the Initiative to Enrich the Arabic Content on the Internet

On 16 September 2009, the Google of the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with the Najjad Zeenni Information Technology Center of Excellence (NZITCE) organized a lecture on the expansion and enrichment of the Arabic content on the Internet, delivered by Mo'taz Abu-Gharbiyeh.

This lecture comes within the framework of the preparing NZITCE and Google Company to launch an initiative in Palestine to expand and enrich the Arabic content on the Internet, aiming to encourage and motivate the Palestinian youth in general, and BZU students  in particular to contribute to the expansion of the  Arabic e-content on the Web, through their volunteer translation of articles from Wikipedia from English into Arabic to be published on the Internet.

Mr. Abu-Gharbiyeh presented a definition of the Arabic e-content on the network, which represents a ratio that does not exceed 1% of the total content of other languages, reviewing the main challenges facing Google to improve the quality of research in Arabic language

He emphasized the importance of establishment, dissemination and sharing the  knowledge in Arabic on the web because of its important role in bridging the digital gap between the developing and developed countries, in addition to the establishment of modern information societies. Referring to the tools and applications developed by Google, the most important "Google Answers", which embodies the latest effort by the company to deliver software in Arabic enhance the possibility of the Arab user to share knowledge in Arabic.
